How I Work

I’ve been helping my clients to cross hefty copywriting projects off their to-do-lists since 2012. And I work across all sectors, from creative industries to multinational brands.

I offer a wide range of copywriting services from white papers to online guides but specialise in three –

tone of voice development, website copywriting and scriptwriting for internal and external corporate videos.

“First of all, I just wanted to thank you for your help on the ‘Photography for Beginners Guide’ you worked on with us. It has delivered over 25,000 new visitors to our blog and the associated infographic has been featured on the biggest photography websites on the web, as well as huge sites like Fast Company, 9gag and the Sydney Morning Herald. So overall, a definite success!”

A large proportion of my work is done under NDA agreements. But I’ve asked those clients who can talk about our work together to give me testimonials for this site. So, you can start to understand what I offer – and what it’s like to work with me.

Here’s Neil. We worked on an NHS script campaign together:

“Working with Katherine is always a pleasure and super-efficient. This was a tough subject to work on – and so the approach needed to be empathetic, informative and clear. Katherine nailed it – as she always does – with no fuss. Perfect. As a bonus, Katherine was great with the client – kept both parties in the loop, informed and flexible where necessary – which is just what we need as a busy agency.”

The Pen SHop

“We both absolutely love what you’ve produced.”

Sally McClymont, Director | The Pen Shop

The brief: The Pen Shop is a 160-year-old family business. In response to changes in the retail landscape, the company’s founders wanted to take the heart of their flagship Glasgow store – the story it tells and what it represents – and translate it onto the page with a new brand tone of voice, instore messaging and website.

Working with: Enigma Interactive and Silverbean

The project: Working with the company’s founders we developed a new brand tone of voice to demonstrate the expertise and experience that The Pen Shop staff bring to their roles.

We also worked with the teams at Enigma and Silverbean to complete each page of the company’s new eCommerce site, crafted conversion copy for a series of customer emails and developed copy for display in the flagship Glasgow store.

Dockwray Accounting

“Katherine is great – she has a really great way of getting the info she needs from us and our clients and then like magic it turns into the best website copy ever. And it sounds more like us writing it than it would if we’d done it ourselves!”

Nick Brereton, Director | Dockwray Accounting

The brief: A website to show the full range of financial support services on offer from Dockwray Accounting – with an emphasis on the directors’ no-nonsense, never scary, and down-to-earth working style.

Working with: Virtually Web Ltd.

The project: There are lots of accounting firms out there. But not many that explain VAT returns and corporation tax in ways that mere mortals can understand.
By interviewing Gill and Nick, the directors at Dockwray Accounting, we created a website that looks, sounds and feels like sitting in their office with a cup of coffee.
By interviewing a wide range of their clients for the site’s case studies, we let those people who employ Gill and Nick do the promotion of their business for them.

And John. He sent this after I held a one-day copywriting training course for the marketing and communications team at The Market Research Society:

“I’ve rarely left any training as energised, engaged and excited as I did from Katherine’s copywriting workshop. Interactive and intensely practical, the course was delivered with humour and honesty. I felt I could immediately apply what I’d learnt. Highly recommended.”

John Bizzell, Events and Awards Manager | The Market Research Society

Helen is the Head of Internal Communication and Engagement for a UK business that employs around 10,000 people. After a two-day training course to introduce the organisation’s new tone of voice – and how to apply it in practice – she wrote:

“Informative and productive. I have learnt such a lot and am looking forward to getting started. Had fun too! Thank you.”

And one from Gary. I redeveloped the business tone of voice, proposition and website for his company, Shout.

“Sometimes you need a specialist, but more importantly, someone who will have empathy with you and your company. That’s exactly what I needed when re-envisaging our proposition and tone of voice. Katherine nailed it perfectly, and I would highly recommend if you need a stand-out copywriter, you look no further than Katherine.”

Richard Tubb, The IT Business Growth Expert

“I’d heard such consistently amazing feedback about Katherine’s work from fellow business owners, that when we had a need for her services, we jumped at the opportunity to work with Katherine.
When we were struggling to find the right words to position one of our key offerings, Katherine helped us put together an incredible sales proposal document. She patiently listened to us and translated our vision into a document that is now generating new business for us.
Katherine is super talented, fun to work with and very professional. I’d highly recommend Katherine’s work to any business that wants to gain a competitive edge!”
